QUEZON CITY, PHILIPPINES, March 5, 2009. IT Group, Inc., an enabler and partner of businesses for service innovation, together with Phil-Data and of course HP, recently conducted an intimate lunch and learn session for select clients so that they can learn about HP's thin client technology. The event was held last Thursday, March 5, 2009 at THE STOCK MARKET Bar and Restaurant, B3, Bonifacio High Street, Taguig City.

The event started a bit later than 11:00am, but was in full swing by lunch time. The first speaker at the event was Leonard Zapa, Market Development Manager for HP Thin Clients. He discussed the different models of HP Thin Clients and the value proposition for using HP Thin Clients--among them: improved security, easier administration and manageability, improved power efficiency, and lower Total Cost of Ownership.

He also demonstrated some applications that can run on HP Thin Clients--virtually all types of applications from stand-alone, to client-server, to web-based can run well on the machines. They can run an embedded OS--such as Linux or Windows and although they don't have any moving parts--like a harddrive or fan, they can perform most of the normal functions of a PC and more.

Their lack of movable parts is actually an advantage as they run on lower power, are more robust and boot faster. Heavy lifting for processor or disk-intensive apps can be done on the server.

He discussed the concept of "Virtual Software Appliances" which combines the advantages of virtualization, a steamlined OS, and a pre-configured application solution. Through virtual software appliances, companies can have a fully turnkey solution for infrastructure, security, collaboration, communication and many others. Ramon then went on to demonstrate an example software virtual appliance called Untangle--which is a Unified Threat Management solution and Internet Firewall/Gateway.

Customers who attended the event now have a better appreciation of new, innovative, better value solutions out there. According to Ramon: "we are quite happy with the event, and the opportunity to interact with customers in a more intimate setting. Of course this would not have been possible without the help of Phil-Data and HP."
