From the media:

The weather bureau said Ondoy (Interntaional name: Ketsana) brought the heaviest rainfall in the country in 40 years. About 410 mm of rain fell in 24 hours on Saturday, twice the amount that drenched the United States during Hurricane Katrina in 2005.

The floods have deluged Metro Manila (population: 11.5 million as of 2007) , stranding thousands. Major highways have been shut down due to floods and other effects of the typhoon. Operations of Manila’s NAIA terminal have been stopped. Domestic flights have been cancelled.

Floods have reached six feet in some areas. No reports yet of casualties but radio and TV news continuously report about knee-deep, waist-high, neck-high, and bus-level floods in many areas.
